HAIM - If I Could Change Your Mind (Cerrone Funk Mix)

HAIM made a great impression last year with Days Are Gone

their smashing debut. It showed a trio of young yet seasoned

performers taking a note from R&B and pop of the 70s and 80s. 

While HAIM have been remixed, the work of French disco legend

Cerrone sets itself apart from the rest.

Ross/Kanye/Sean - Sanctified (Brenmar Remix)

Kanye West already knocked this out the park when

he slid Rozay this gem. A lot of people were glad to see

him out of Yeezus-mode for the original version. Trust,

Brenmar to make the banger a lot more club friendly.

The way he uses the classic Rick Ross adlib to segway

out of the hook is truly masterful. Then he cherry picks

the best brashest lines from the song and turns them into a

sweaty manifesto.

100 million dollars and a bad bitch?

 Most certainly.

Disclosure - Latch (DJ Premier Remix)

Disclosure's 'Settle' was one of the biggest dance/electronic 

albums of 2013. Not long since they announced that

they would be dropping a remix album, that we get hit

with, of all people, - DJ Premier's contribution.

Nothing else to say. It's DJ Premier.

Rihanna - Diamonds (Ultrademon Remix)

Ok let's just get it out of the way. This was probably one of the most

remixed songs of recent memory. Approaching another remix with

a degree of cynicism at this point would not be unjustified. But this 

is something else, an instance of an artist drawing a song into his

world and transforming it.

Over a wobbly jungle beat, Ultrademon re-arranges Rihanna's vocals into 

new melodies while frantically pitch shifting them over 

a stream of cascading whimsical chimes.

Ultrademon is currently working on a debut album 'Seapunk' -
named after the genre he is associated with.
And if this remix is any indication, 

we should be in for a mind-braising treat.

Ghostpoet - Meltdown (Squarepusher Remix)

British singer/producer Ghostpoet has made a steady home in melancholia
ever since his 2011 debut. For his upcoming sophomore album
'Some Say I So I Say Light' out May 6th via Brownswood Recordings,
he definitely has not changed his address. And with this massive remix
by electronic whiz Squarepusher, there is no need.

Squarepusher replaces the original's off-kilter drums, piano and strings with
a soothing contemplative rhodes melody, buzzing bass, drum n bass percussion
and sparkly synths. Vocalist  Woodpecker Wooliams nails the hook with
her spectral delivery.

All in all Squarepusher's take is way more epic and ominous.
And good for it.

Usher - Climax (Lindsay Lowend Remix)

Usher and Diplo had a scorcher on their hands about a year ago with

their collaboration on 'Climax.' Undoubtedly, between then and now,

several hands have touched it with intent to remix but few this funky.

Lindsay Lowend spins it around with chunky bass, a steady ambient pad

then goes into a bridge with swirling synths and electronic horns. It ends

on a more sedate... climax with Usher's vocals layered

upon each other.

Effective nonetheless.

Oppaa - N'questia

And to continue the streak of little known knob twiddlers out there in the midst.

Oppa, whoever you are, has crafted a gentle head nodder of a remix of Adele's

'Melt My Heart To Stone'.

At this point, Adele's sample worthiness is no longer a point of debate.

Jesse Boykins III & MeLo-X - The Perfect Blues (Machinedrum remix)

Machinedrum goes absolutely bonkers on this remix. He goes for a jungle-tinged

take on this collab from singer songwriter Jesse Boykins III and producer/rapper

MeLo-X. 

This is from their full length 'Zulu Guru' out on Ninja Tune on October 30.

Tinashe - Boss (Ryan Hemsworth remix)

Tinashe is a singer from Kentucky. She gets her exotic looks from having Zimbabwean,

Danish, Norwegian and Irish blood from her parents. This is a cut off her mixtape

'In Case We Die' that she dropped in February 2012. While we salivate for her

next mixtape 'Reverie,' Ryan Hemsworth - another Canadian export killing the game right now -

has graced us with this official remix to keep the thirst at bay till then.

He surrounds her vocals with a flurry of chimes and percussion that switches from

congas and fingersnaps to an 808-led trap chorus. He tops it all off with fluttering coos

and stuttering vocal samples. And Tinashe?

Besides crooning languid from behind a curtain of reverb, she's waiting for you to come and get it. 

That's right, daddy....

Blood Diamonds feat. Grimes - Phone Sex (Unicorn Kid remix)

Unicorn Kid is known for big sun-drenched rave ups. Here, we catch him

remixing a tune by Blood Diamond featuring cute pop oddity from Canada

.........sorry Drake, it's Grimes.

Unicorn Kid's contribution is rave at its essence -  the chord-heavy piano build ups, 

synth flares, the rolling kicks. Then there is Grimes' voice - distant, innocent, 

yearning,

both human and mechanical,

 still soothing.

Rave on.

Redlight - Get Out My Head (Joker remix)
