Purity Ring - Fineshrines

Purity Ring has been a sweet spot for me ever since their first single. Since then the
quirky electro-pop have continued unabated with a consistently dope slew of singles off
the upcoming 'Shrines' LP out via Last Gang Entertainment this July.

This track offers more of what they do best - dream pop trap beats by Corrin Roddick and
gothic imagery from the honey-throated vocalist Megan James.

Pop always gets a bad rap but when its so well executed with such a unique
and consistent vision, there is just no denying it.

Jamie Jones - Special Effect

Jamie Jones is a DJ/dance music producer out of Wales, transplanted into the UK.
He just dropped his sophomore album 'Tracks From The Crypt' via Crosstown
Rebels. This throbbing gem here stood out with its snaking bass weaving
around shuddering waves of dark synths, mechanical strings and a playful
toy-piano melody.

Kitty Pryde - Ha, I'm Sorry (EP Stream/Download)

When I first heard Kitty Pryde on 'Okay, Cupid,' I didn't know what to think.
After all I listened to it blind, going off the fact that Beautiful Lou was
producing it. Granted, she was doing the giggly cheery school schtick,
something about the track stood out. Her vocals were produced to sound
like dream pop from the '60s and her shyish conversational delivery
was so endearing. Oh, yes and since this is rap, she could put words
together.

Now she just dropped this EP. Each of the five tracks are solid; the
production is consistent, indebted to cloud rap and ripe for pill popping,
syrup sipping, tumblr surfing.

Here Kitty!

Oddisee - People Hear What They See (Album Stream)

Oddisee dropped his latest album 'People Hear What They See' on June 5
via Mello Music Group. He is a beast behind the boards, mining an arsenal
of soulful samples to create his head nodding tracks that have that boom bap
element without being derivative. Lyrically, he rarely ever misses a beat,
crafting conceptual gems, steering away from money/cash/hoes and riding the beat
with his everyday man preacher flow.

You can smell the influence of pioneers like Rakim and KRS-One here.

Frank Ocean - Pyramids

Granted I was slow to catch up to Nostalgia Ultra but once I did I was hooked. Frank
Ocean quickly became my favorite Odd Future member.

As he gears up for his sophomore release Channel Orange out July 17th on Def Jam,
he was kind enough to drop this single. 'Pyramids' is by far one of the most epic
R& B singles (and songs) that I've heard recently. At a staggering 10 minutes,
the beat morphs from psychedelic ambience to electronic dance to spacey trap beat.

At every moment, Frank Ocean guides us with his silky wholesome croon, narrating
the loss of his Cleopatra. Of course by the time he finds her, she has become a
stripper, working at the Pyramid. Just like a Disney movie.

P.S. Even the artwork for the single is awesome and keeps the pyramid theme.
