Daughn Gibson - Lite Me Up

Daughn Gibson follows up the release of his self-titled debut with a 7" via Dull Knife
with this joint being one of those two on there.

His production style is spacious and atmospheric, Ray LaMontagne by way of an MPC.
His voice is deep and world weary, comforting with a tinge of hurt. The love he
sings of is slightly noirish, alluring yet dangerous, tinted with self-destruction
and never failing to remind of one's mortality.

Pair this with a fine whiskey.

Lockah - The Sour Drink From The Ocean

Lockah's got a nasty little gem with this one from his upcoming EP release
"When U Stop Feeling Like A Weirdo & Become A Threat".
He runs a creeping bassline underneath ethereal pad washes and a tasteful
waterdrop synth. His snare is deep and heavy, percussion more on the
post-dubstep side. Despite the addition of the obligatory distant R&B
diva wails and moans, he definitely defines his sound with this one.

Kreayshawn feat. 2 Chainz - Breakfast a.k.a Syrup (Video)

Kreayshawn and 2 Chainz was never a combo I saw working on paper.
Their first collab on 2 Chainz's 'Murder' was ok but was one of the tamer
efforts of his T.R.U. mixtape for me. And I didn't get any of the hype
around Kreayshawn....till now.
Kreay might not be the greatest lyricist but she has a ear for beats and
is a great director. Furthermore, given both of these rappers are sponsored
by codeine, their tag teaming clicks.
The video is plain old rap fun. That's a rare commodity these days because
unless Busta Rhymes puts out a video, it's a lot of boss-posturing and
money, cash, hoes.
This shit Kreay!

Dopewave Is Real (Compilation Album)

From reading a lot about music, I realized how the conversation about genres
and categorization was a constantly evolving and perilious dialogue. With so
many artists drawing from various influences and adding to the fact that some
of the artist themselves are 'genre-shy' (i.e. do not want to be pigeonholed), it
is a seesawing debate. What is unique here is that the presenters of this
compilation have done all the work for us ahead of time and assigned themselves
a category, newly-birthed, of their own creation.

Say hello to dopewave. And it's dope, for real.

Killer Mike - 'Southern Fried'

Killer Mike's beasting over EL-P production! Can't say I ever saw this coming
but it came out extra crispy. Killer Mike is known for his boisterous delivery
and real talk rhymes. EL-P is the overlord of dusty boom-bap from a Blade Runer-esque
future in which the world is swarming with replicants.

Off the upcoming 'R.A.P. Music' entirely produced by Mr. Lazerface, the craziest
thing about the collab on this track is how EL-P married his usual style with some
country blues. There's that milkshake-thick synth bopping in front of complimentary
blues guitar licks. Ain't it fresh!

2 step- Uk Garage

Put the kicks on the 1 and 3, get the hats in a triplet, add a glitchy melody and teem it with catchy vocals...all i finna say is fuck dubstep - uk garage/2 step i appreciate wayyyyyy more now with the house pop/electro/ dubstep shitt that is poisoning the masses ear holes

Taquwami - 'Blue', 'Time After Time', 'With You'

Taquwami is a mysterious producer from Tokyo who is churning out a bubbly
confection I can best as dream trap music. It's all pitch-bent vocals, liquorish
synths and trap-influenced percussion.
 Just listen.

Lone - 'Galaxy Garden' (Album Stream)

Lone, real name - Matt Cutler, takes us to a galaxy not to far from that
of Rustie. Both of these Brits specialize in uptempo glossy dance music
influenced by 8-bit and 16-bit videogame tunes. Everything he lays out
is bright, sparkly and alien....in a cute E.T. way not like a facehugger.
'Galaxy Garden' is his  new album out on R&S this May 2012.

Ultraista - 'Small Talk'

Nigel Godrich, Radiohead producer, has started a new band - Ultraista.
'Small Talk' is stuttering drums, bubbling plasticky bells and rave-noir
synths wandering in search of an escape route from whatever it was
that you were saying. Laura Bettison is on vocals and she's has had it
with your lip.
